Last year, more than 203,000 women in the United States were diagnosed with breast cancer.  This year, 211,000 more will receive the same diagnosis.

Dr. Bragdon, an American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) member, works with breast cancer survivors through breast reconstruction.  Almost every woman who loses her breast to cancer can have it rebuilt through reconstructive surgery.  Reconstruction options, including skin expansion followed by the use of implants or flap reconstruction with tissue from other parts of the body, are discussed immediately after diagnosis.

Dr. Bragdon is aware of the devastating effects of breast cancer.  He will provide the time and attention you need to discuss reconstruction options so you can make an informed decision.

Last year, 73,026 breast reconstruction procedures were performed, an increase of 147 % since 1992.  This increase was due in part to the passage of the Women’s Health and Cancer Rights Act of 1998.  The law, supported by the ASPS, mandates insurance coverage for breast reconstruction and the alteration of the opposite breast for symmetry in women who have undergone mastectomy.

Members of the ASPS support women in their fight against the disease.  Dr. Bragdon welcomes the opportunity to serve as your resource.

The staff at Plastic Surgical Associates of Pittsburgh are eager to answer any of your questions as well as assist you in any of your decisions.
